Terre Haute Courthouse Elopement | Sierra + Jamison’s Love Story
As an Indianapolis elopement photographer, I love the stories that remind me that sometimes two people can take completely different paths and still somehow find their way back to each other. Sierra and Jamison’s Terre Haute courthouse elopement was one of those stories.
They knew each other back in high school, but life took them in different directions. Sierra eventually moved to Las Vegas, and both of them went on to get married. Those marriages eventually ended in divorce. Yet somehow, their paths crossed again in Terre Haute.
And this time, it felt different.
Their families even knew it. According to Sierra and Jamison, everyone could see that maybe they were always supposed to find their way back to each other. Their wedding day felt like the beginning of the next chapter of a story that had already been years in the making.
A Terre Haute Courthouse Elopement Full of Love
Sierra and Jamison’s September elopement took place in Terre Haute, Indiana, with the Vigo County Courthouse as an important part of their day.
We actually started in the building behind the courthouse, where Sierra and Jamison said their “I dos.” From there, we headed over to the courthouse to drop off their paperwork and make everything official.
There was something really special about how simple the day was. No huge production. No pressure to make everything look a certain way.
Just Sierra, Jamison, their kids, and the people who mattered most.
Once they finished with their paperwork, we had a little time to take some photographs inside the courthouse before it closed. Then we headed outside to continue documenting their newlywed portraits around Terre Haute.
Their Kids Were Part of the Story
One of my favorite parts of this Terre Haute elopement was having the kids there to witness the day.
Sierra has gained two new bonus boys, and it was so sweet seeing them be part of this next chapter. They weren’t just watching from the sidelines. They were there for an important part of the process and even signed the witness paperwork.
That made the day feel even more meaningful.
There is something about including your children in an intimate wedding that makes the memories feel even more personal. Years from now, they will be able to look back and know they were there when Sierra and Jamison officially became a family.
And Then There Was the Youngest One…
Now, I have to give the youngest child a little shoutout because he definitely gave me a run for my money. 😂
He was SURE going to keep things interesting.
But honestly? Those are the moments I love. Weddings and elopements aren’t always perfectly posed or perfectly behaved. Real families are messy, funny, unpredictable, and full of personality.
And I want your photographs to remember that too.
Why I Love Photographing Intimate Elopements
There is something completely different about an intimate elopement compared to a traditional wedding day.
You have more room to slow down. You can focus on each other. You can include the people who matter most without feeling like you have to entertain an entire guest list.
That is one of the reasons I love being a location wedding photographer. Whether I’m photographing a courthouse ceremony, an intimate wedding, or a destination celebration, I get to meet couples where their story is actually happening.
Sierra and Jamison’s day wasn’t about putting on a show. It was about finally getting to the place they were meant to be.
From Terre Haute to Bali
And apparently, Terre Haute wasn’t the only place these two are getting married.
Sierra and Jamison are also planning to say “I do” again in Bali—just the two of them, surrounded by the love they share and the adventure they are creating together.
And I am NOT going to lie… I wish I could just pack myself into their suitcase. 😂
I would absolutely love to be there to capture those moments for them.
But even though I won’t be the one photographing their Bali adventure, I already know it is going to be something incredibly special. There is something beautiful about a couple choosing to celebrate their marriage in more than one way and creating experiences that feel completely like them.
Planning a Courthouse Elopement in Indiana?

Indiana couples still need a marriage license to legally marry. The Indiana Judicial Branch notes that couples can marry as early as the same day their license is issued, and the license is valid for 60 days. Requirements can vary by county, so it is important to check with the appropriate clerk before your wedding day.
- Choose what matters most to you. You don’t need a huge guest list to have a meaningful wedding.
- Bring the people you want beside you. Sierra and Jamison included their kids, making them part of an incredibly meaningful moment.
- Plan time for portraits. Even if your ceremony is short, your photographs don’t have to be.
- Make room for your personality. Your elopement should feel like your relationship, not someone else’s wedding.
Think beyond the ceremony. Courthouse weddings can include portraits around the city, family photos, a special meal, or even a second celebration somewhere completely different.
